An airflow sensor is a device used to monitor a patient’s airflow. Flow sensors measure the amount of gas released from the O₂ and air channels during inspiration and expiration. The relative proportions of the gases delivered by each channel are continuously adjusted to accurately control the percentage of oxygen delivered to the patient. The flow sensor is placed between the regulator and the flow valve, the regulator ensures a constant pressure in the flow valve. It is a mass flow sensor that introduces heat into the flow and monitors temperature rise at downstream locations. The temperature range depends on the mass flow rate and the specific heat of the gas passing through the sensor.
