SpO2 measurement principle

SpO2 monitoring is a non-invasive method of measuring the amount of oxygenated hemoglobin and heart rate by measuring the absorption of light at selected wavelengths. The light generated by the probe passes through the tissue and is converted into an electrical signal by the probe's photodetector. The SpO2 module processes the electrical signals and displays a digital value of SpO2 and heart rate on the screen.

After positioning the sensor, connect the sensor to the SpO2 module and then connect the module to the SpO2 connector on the transmitter. Don't forget to connect the SpO2 extension cable. Make sure cables are not tangled and away from ESUs or other electrical equipment. The ECG cable acts as the transmitter's antenna. Even if you are not interested in monitoring the ECG progress, don't forget to connect it to the transmitter.

Note

  • Place the SpO2 sensor cable on the back of the patient's hand. Make sure the nail is pointing directly at the sensor light.

  • Inaccurate SpO2 readings can occur if the sensor is not properly placed in the measurement position or if the system is unable to detect a pulse and is unable to measure SpO2. In this case, the sensor must be moved.

  • Excessive patient movement may cause inaccurate readings. In this case, the patient should be immobilized or the application area of the sensor changed to minimize distractions from excessive movement.

  • The transmission wire uses the shielding layer as a transmitting antenna. Therefore, if the ECG leads are correctly connected during blood oxygen monitoring, the RF signal will be transmitted correctly. Otherwise, communication is disabled.
