Contact between electrodes and patient
Poor electrode-to-patient contact can result in poor signal quality and associated waveforms, as well as false alarm conditions. Poor contact may be caused by poor skin preparation, dry electrode gel, and/or defective ECG cables or lead wires. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure good contact between the electrode and the patient to achieve more accurate results. The specific matters are as follows:
1. After connection, the electrodes should not move in any way;
2. Periodically check whether the electrode is firmly adhered to the patient and in complete contact. If the electrode moves easily, it indicates that the electrode connection is too loose and may need to be replaced;
3. Tape the wire approximately 3-4 inches from the electrode, leaving slack in the wire to prevent it from pulling on the electrode.
Lead Selection
It is important to select the appropriate leads for the patient, showing the largest amplitude and cleanest signal so that the monitor can accurately detect the QRS complexes and R waves. Please follow the following when making your selection:
1. The QRS complex should be high and narrow (recommended amplitude > 0.5 mV);
2. The R wave should be above or below baseline (but not biphasic);
3. P wave should be less than (1/5) R wave height;
4. T wave should be less than (1/3) R wave height.
