A lithium manganese dioxide battery refers to a type of battery in which the cathode is lithium and the anode is manganese dioxide. Manganese
dioxide batteries have good low- and medium-speed discharge performance, low price, good safety performance, and compete with existing
batteries, making them the first commercially available lithium batteries.
Lithium manganese dioxide batteries are typical organic electrolyte lithium batteries. This battery was successfully invented and developed by the
Sanyo Electric Company of Japan in 1975 and immediately launched into the market. The structure of the internal electrode of the battery can be
designed and manufactured in carbon-wrapped, coiled and laminated designs. The shape of the battery can be designed and manufactured in
coin-shaped, cylindrical and square shapes to meet the use requirements of electrical products of different sizes and currents. Compared to other
lithium batteries, the material and manufacturing costs are relatively low, and the safety is very good. Therefore, it is currently the most widely
used commercial lithium battery in the world.
Lithium-manganese batteries use metallic lithium as the negative electrode and appropriately heat-treated electrolytic manganese dioxide, lithium
perchlorate (or lithium trifluoromethanesulfonate) in a solvent mixture such as propylene carbonate/ethylene glycol dimethyl e ther structured
electrolyte as the positive electrode. The discharge mechanism is different from the redox mechanism of a normal battery, and the anode reaction
is a typical buried reaction.
